Thursday Thirteen – My Drive to Work

written by vanessa

For other thirteen’s, wander over to Alice’s.

I took these pictures on my way to work one morning.

(I was never moving at any time when I clicked the camera. No really.)

I didn’t clean my windows so you would get the full effect. (If you think I ever clean my car windows, you just don’t know me very well, do you?)

20091117 002 The results of the repair to the building that I wrote about on July 15, 2008 Just Dune It.20091117 003

The first of several harbors.

Lots of big boats are parked by where I live.

20091117 005

The next harbor down the street. Are boats parked?

20091117 006

A raw materials train.

They come down the tracks at three in the morning.

20091117 016

Not owned by anyone Irish.

See my green beads hanging from my rearview mirror.

I bet you can’t guess what hangs on the end.

20091117 018

A bed and breakfast across from the train tracks.

It’s a cute place but it’s across from the train people.

20091117 017 A train station.

(I told you: at no time was I moving when I snapped my pictures. Why don’t you believe me?)

20091117 021

Nostalgia.20091117 024

The light rail. (No. I am not moving as fast as the train.) 20091117 037

Some dumb engineer’s bright idea to bring back

New Jersey’s circles.

20091117 045 An idiot – there, in the van. Idiot.

20091117 055

The first Christmas decorations in the area.

20091117 060

My office. Back there. In the corner.

* * *

I went to see the midnight showing of New Moon with my daughter. I’ll let you know how it was as soon as I recover. Maybe next week.

OJM and I are seeing New Moon this coming Friday — the 10:30 a.m. showing. Hopefully all the kiddies will be in school.

  2. Tom and Icy says:

You can make common things so fascinating. You totally absorb every iota of life.

  3. Tracie says:

Thanks for taking us along on your ride to work…what a great idea!

    23,864……Amazing!!

  4. Thom says:

What a great ride this was. I love the idiot in the van LOL. But no bar….I’m disappointed :(

  5. Mar says:

I enjoyed the ride!! those traffic circles are very common in my area… so are the van idiots, unfortunately!!
    ;)

  6. Your trip to work is more interesting than mine. I just walk to my lounge. :-)

I look forward to your New Moon report.

  7. colleen says:

Is that Christmas decoration already deflated or just lonely? The funniest to me is the Irish cleaners. Must have been a pub at one time.

  8. Doug says:

Of course you weren’t moving. But you should take your camera in for rotating.

  9. Jim says:

Well, Nessa, I could see this going from bad to worse. Then you made it to the safety and sanity of your work. :-)
I hope your work was good (you’re probably there now again). An office is much better than a cubicle. I had cubicals at NASA and an office my last 22 years at the college. I’ll take the office any day.
    ..
Bad: that fellow/lady was an idiot (a politically incorrect word) because he/she pulled in front of you?
    ..
Worse: hanging Santa in effigy? ;-)
    ..

  10. Jim says:

Once in a while I stop to take pictures, mainly when I am using the zoom feature. Other wise I do it driving. I have a label, ‘driving pictures,’ most of those are taken in motion.

  11. Alice Audrey says:

What a cool road trip you took us on.
You weren’t moving? Well, you know me. A little motion never stopped me. As to the windows all I can say is you must not have the high-impact-bug problem I face.

  12. Mama Zen says:

What a cool idea for a Thursday 13!

  13. brian miller says:

thanks for taking us along for the ride…the grinch seems a bit flat, perhaps the hoos in hooville will cheer him up.

  14. now i’ve been where you go

  15. this is weird. so i’m ok with it. but weird nontheless

  16. Love all the pics, I thought about documenting my ride to work, LOL! Now I might just have to.
    much love
p.s. i love the first christmas decorations!

  17. Jen says:

I wonder why the Grinch looks so deflated.

I enjoyed seeing your drive to work!

  18. Steve E says:

Sure enjoyed this ride to work…but afraid I cannot do it, riding a scooter. Maybe during a hurricane (NEXT year!)
    Great idea!
    Peace!

  19. nursemyra says:

you live in a really pretty part of town

  20. melli says:

Well, that was fun! Next time do we actually get to go TO WORK with you? I like those docks with the castle towers! Things like that excite me… *shrug*… I think boats are DOCKED – but you can park them if you like! :)

  21. AYRDALE says:

I don’t know how old your daughter is, but if she’s 16 plus, take her to “An Education”.

It is stunning. A depiction of 1960’s UK as seen by a 16 year girl.
In our (my wife and I) humble opinions, not to be missed.

  22. Fred says:

When I lived in the UK, I used to love to navigate the traffic circles. Very efficient method of controlling the flow.

Great post. I have to do this someday. I think it wouldn’t be as interesting as your drive, but what the heck, it’s my blog!

  23. Granny Sue says:

Now that was an ineresting trip. I posted my morning commute (minus photo of my actual workplace) back inJune. You can see it here–it’s a world away from yours, I think.

  24. Julia says:

    Thanks for the ride along!

  25. Loved the trip, especially the train…I remember the jughandles in New Jersey, but loved the round abouts in England…wish they’d put them here more often…dinner is served at 1:45 on the dot…don’t be late!

  26. Protege says:

I love taking pictures out of the car. I try to always take snap shots at the red lights.;) Sometimes I just hold my camera on top of the wheel and just press the button, without knowing what I am shooting. The best pictures are taken that way;) LOVE all yours, particularly the one of the first x-mas decoration.;) xo

  27. Paige Tyler says:

    Neat pics!
Can’t wait to see New Moon!

    *hugs*

I wonder just what the IDIOT in the van did. Nice drive to work with you even if we did get a little road rage along the way.

  29. You always come up with interesting Thursday Thirteen themes. I loved to join you on the drive to work. Have a wonderful week, Nessa :)
