The Next Big Thing

I saw this meme on your WIP over at The Organic Writer and thought it would be a good way to start posting here again.

What is your working title of your next novel?

The Salt Lover’s Book of Magic

Where did the idea come from for this novel?

I like salt and I was wondering why I am obsessed with it. I will eat salt all by itself, as a food group. I thought maybe my craving came from some trauma in a previous life.

What genre does it fall under?

Fantasy, Self-Help and How To.

Which actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?

Vincent van Kingmaker looks just like Gerald Gardner (not an actor.) Frank Hendersen would be played by Ian Somerhalder. They would both be the same all of the time except for when Frank looks like his demon self. Now, Mary would look different in each book. As Mary, in this lifetime, she would look and act like the mother in the movie, Muriel’s Wedding,  the actress Jeanie Drynan. Then, depending on what life she’s relieving, will depend on the actor. In this book, she would be female and she would be Maisie Williams (Arya from GoT.)

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your novel?

Still in progress – Mary, a housewife in New Jersey, wants to die. Frank, demon/god, is obsessed with Mary. He causes her to be repeatedly reborn, once in an ancient Austrian salt mine.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

I will self-publish on Amazon.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?

I will have it all done and ready for publishing by the end of March 2013. The first draft is mostly in my head. But I have lots of time to write, now.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

I think this will be a new and unique kind of book. Part stories of reincarnation, magic studies and a demon/god’s journal.

Who or what inspired you to write this book?

My constant craving for salt and the possible reasons for it.

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

The first half will consist of related short stories about reincarnation. The second half will be a how to book on magic with spells all using salt.

  1. I too crave salt. The boring everyday reason for this is that I have hypothyroidism.
As a sort of Pagan/Buddhist Chaos Magician, I am intrigued by stories about reincarnation. I take them with a grain of salt! 😉

    1. I did do a bit of a groan 🙂 Still funny though. I first ran across reincarnation when I learned to read Tarot cards. I read for this one woman who swore she was Marilyn Monroe in her previous life. Unfortunately she was born before MM died so I’m pretty sure not.

  2. I guess we’d all like to be Marilyn! Well, for her beauty anyway. She was actually a very sad soul. I’ve got enough of that going on, thanks anyway!
When I was trying to figure out my reasons for having a severe needle phobia, I tapped into a lifetime during the Nazi occupation in Austria. I have also had dreams about this lifetime. It seems that I was a sympathizer who helped the Jews and was eventually captured and tortured. Good times!

    1. Most people told me they were Cleopatra or King Arthur or other rich, famous, people. When I did my own, I was always poor and on the fringes of “polite” society. Once, I was a child with a very low IQ during the dark ages. My family were travelers. We were very poor. I was around eight when I was left on the side of a road because there wasn’t enough food to feed everyone. I starved to death in that life.
