I do not vouch for the accuracy of any of this information.
1. THE AVERAGE HUMAN BODY HOLDS ENOUGH… fat to make 7 bars of soap.
2. A sunbeam setting out through space at the rate of 186,000 miles a second would go in a gigantic circle and return to its origins after about 200 billion years. ([How do they know this?] [If true, than life really is one big circle.])
3. It takes 3,000 cows to supply a single season’s worth of footballs for the National Football League.
4. The ant has the largest brain in the animal kingdom, in proportion to its size. > An ant can lift 50 times its own weight, which is equivalent to a human being pulling a 10-ton trailer.
5. A pregnant goldfish is called a twit.
6. 111,111,111 x 111,111,111 = 12,345,678,987,654,321
7. If NASA sent birds into space they would soon die, they need gravity to swallow.
8. Goethe couldn’t stand the sound of barking dogs and could only write if he had an apple rotting in the drawer of his desk.
9. Gilligan of Gilligan’s Island had a first name that was only used once, on the never-aired pilot show. His first name was Willy. The skipper’s real name on Gilligan’s Island is Jonas Grumby. It was mentioned once in the first episode on their radio’s newscast about the wreck.
10. Studies show that if a cat falls off the seventh floor of a building it has about thirty percent less chance of surviving than a cat that falls off the twentieth floor. It supposedly takes about eight floors for the cat to realize what is occurring, relax and correct itself.
11. The phrase “rule of thumb” is derived from an old English law which stated that you couldn’t beat your wife with anything wider than your thumb.
12. Elephants sleep only 2 hours a day and can remain standing after they die.
13. Personal hygiene left much room for improvement. As a result, many women and men had developed acne scars by adulthood. The women would spread bee’s wax over their facial skin to smooth out their complexions. When they were speaking to each other, if a woman began to stare at another woman’s face she was told, ‘mind your own bee’s wax.’ Should the woman smile, the wax would crack, hence the term ‘crack a smile’. In addition, when they sat too close to the fire, the wax would melt . … . Therefore, the expression ‘losing face.’
For other thirteen’s, wander over to Alice’s.
Amoeba says there is no such thing as a pregnant goldfish. Goldfish are egg layers and don’t get “pregnant”.
Amoeba also says the elephant thing is true. Elephants lock their knees when they stand and gravity would keep them upright after they died but they probably don’t stay that way for long.
Humans are nothing compared to ants!! Who knew?
Well where did the name pigskin come from hmmm? Soap is made from fat? WOW grease me up and slide me home. How many woo woo’s did you have before you did thia? LOL
Goethe had a rotting apple in his drawer, because back then EVERYBODY had a rotting apple(s) around…–grin
REALLY like your big 13 (Thirteen!)
Peace Vanessa, glad to see you *early* this morning, in cyberville.
3000 cows to make the football…wonder how many to feed the teams. hmmm…wonder how they tested that theory for soap?
Yeah, Thom, I’m skeptical about a few of these but it’s still a fun read.
Adorable artwork!
I’m pretty sure 2 is just a theory, regardless of what mathematicians may have to say.
Now I know why I have a serious lack of general knowledge !!
Interesting list. Thanks for stopping by.
I always taught my students not to believe everything they read
Great… that means I have about 14 bars in ME!
You know I had to get my calculator out for #6. It’s true…
Okay, those are super cool facts! Great TT!
*hugs*
Paige
My TT is at http://paigetylertheauthor.blogspot.com/
Are you saying the Universe is Round!!!! I thought it was flat like the earth! What radical thinking! First Pluto, and now this.I can’t take it!
these were interesting!
What are you talking about…why I can lift 50 ants!
I don’t know if I believe it, but from now on every time I see an elephant standing very still I am going to wonder if it is sleeping or dead.
Thanks for stopping by my list! I need to get one of those DVRs, it would make life easier!
That last one is fascinating!
Crazy!!!
Fascinating! I’ll never remember them all though. 🙁
My first trip to a Useless 13 ~ maybe useless, but interesting and fun to read anyway! Thanks for taking the time to compile them. My question is, if I’m worth 7 bars of soap, why do I still feel the need to shower every day?
Karis
How interesting and FUN!!
All those cows have to die so millionaires can roll around in the mud.
Some pregnant girls are also called twits.
Be glad the dead elephant only stands and doesn’t walk.
I think I am related to a few pregnant goldfish.
Interesting facts, I like what Dr John said, Concur on some Pregnant Girls.
3,000 cows?!!! I love football but WOW. And isn’t it called the pigskin? If cows are going to take a hit like that it should be called the cowskin 🙂
What a fun and fascinating list of possible facts. I’d place real trust in soap, math, and ants, the rest I’ll have to research.
Very interesting. I’m not too sure about the validity of number 13 or the ethics of the cat one, though.
